The ocean seen from a bedroom on the southern coast

Ahangama,Southern Sri Lanka.

An hour past Galle, where the coast road runs level with the water and the day starts early.

Getting Here

Fly into Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB), Colombo. From there it is 2 hours 30 minutes by expressway on the Southern Expressway — we can have a car waiting, and the drive is the easiest part of the journey.

Come between December and April for dry, still mornings. The green season either side is quieter and cheaper, with rain that clears by evening.

BeforeYou Come

When is the best time to visit Ahangama?
December to April is the dry season on the south coast — steady sun, light offshore wind and the cleanest surf. May to November is greener, quieter and cheaper, with short afternoon rain.
How do you get to Ahangama from Colombo airport?
About two and a half hours by the Southern Expressway. We can arrange a car and driver to meet your flight.
Is Ahangama good for beginner surfers?
Yes. Kabalana beach break suits beginners and improvers year-round, and there are reef points nearby for more experienced surfers.
Do you need a car in Ahangama?
Not for a short stay — tuk-tuks are everywhere and cheap. For day trips to Galle, Mirissa or the tea estates, a car and driver is easier.
